I had so many of these thoughts, too. Her knife skills were surprisingly not so sharp, her floral arranging was lovely. The episodes with her friends where they taught her to cook (Roy Choi, Alice Waters, the Tatcha founder) were most interesting as they felt naturally Meghan. I found myself struggling with how I perceived her at times. When she was teaching a skill, but simultaneously saying she wasn’t an expert, I found myself wondering why we are taking so much stock in her. I would’ve liked a bit more consistency in terms of how she wanted to come across—Martha or Ina, as you might say—either a student or a teacher.

I liked the apiarist too - it did bug me that she never introduced him which gave me the impression on the show of celebrity hierachy . He was clearly really knowledgeable and she missed an opportunity for us all to learn about bees!

Agreed! Made him feel like staff vs someone who clearly had something valuable to teach us

I really have no problem with anything in this show except for the knife skills. Why am I always seeing influencer types using the tiniest knives? You're onto something with the PR angle...

Fun post!

I'm an American, have lived in the UK for 15 yrs, and when she got here I was mortified by her treatment. And why on earth did no one prep her? I was lucky enough to live in Europe first, got to know British people who informed me of both the major and subtle differences. I sort of knew what to expect. Poor Meghan was fresh off the private plane from California without a friend to help her navigate. It amazes me how sensible, intelligent people I know who are triggered by her. Obviously are deeper things at play with royalty, the wealth around royalty, class, etc. but still...anyway. My beef with the show is the "party bag" for kids she puts together in the Mindy ep, how the kids will want to play with it in the car ride home, and yet she puts some sort of dried grass inside first AND gives kids pointy garden tools. In the back of my car that would lead to carnage and a missing eye and whining about the absence of e-numbers. The whole production feels like it's trying too hard, and it made me feel a little sorry for her. She came across as boring, but the few little side jabs makes me think that the 'real' Meghan is anything but. Thanks for this post.

I am 💯 % SURE she was prepped. Or at least when she got there. I could write a thesis on the subject. Meghan was going to re-shape the Royal Family. She knew what she was getting into- if it was me I would have run for the hills like his other girlfriends did. She is an astute and sophisticated women. We can all google if nothing else. I’ve watched a million curtsies over the years. She didn’t know you curtsy to the Queen? She had Sophie to guide her amongst a lot more. Frogmore Cottage not suitable? Meghan is not oblivious.

Real question though: why is she Megan Sussex and not Megan Windsor? Sussex is the title and not the surname?

Loved this week’s entry ❤️ After reading it, I have new respect for her, their life style choices, and for this kind of content. Let’s make a universal new law, right here, on this Substack: once a person obtains a certain level of celebrity or monetary status, the world prevails upon you to simply live your lavish life, spend your wealth doing whatever makes you happy, and simply abdicate doing anything political or harmful to humanity for the rest of your days. We, (the masses), anoint this class of people to enjoy their riches - and if that means creating more pretty lifestyle shows - then yes, we support lots of them!
